On the 8th of February
We travelled in to town to see
A concert that was principally
French Music (Ah bon, mais oui)
Conducted by Federovski.
And frankly
We were bored.

Inthe 19th Century
A Frenchman called Erk Saite
Was writing things in Gay Paree
He called it "Deux Gymnopedies"
Arranged, it seems, eventually
By another Gaul called Debussey.
Dear Claude

Why?
Why "Deux Gymnopedies"?
I looked it up in a French
Dictionary.
It wasn't there. So the Missus said
Work it out.
So,
I did.

Gym means the same as in Gymnnast,
Gymnasium, (but not German schools)
Gymslip, and many more.
No.....is obvious!
Ped, with or without the accent, as every schoolboy knows
Means Foot.
Deux is French for Two,
From the Latin "Aye Aye".

Put it all together and you've got
A Pair of Plimsolls.

I draw the line at that.

Sacre Bleu, quel domage.

Poor Erik Satie, whatever did he do to deserve such an elegy? For the record I think they were meant to be some kind of exotic dances (think lap-dancing but slightly upmarket). I trust there was no flesh on show during this concert (obviously not, or that first verse might have ended quite differently).

Er, Murky buckets mon sewer! No, it actually happened, and I'm afraid it did nowt for me. In fact, the only thing I liked less was Tippet's "Child of our Time". Gimme them vieux Teutonics, mon brave, hee hon, hee hon.

You lie, Manton. It is already established, elsewhere on this forum, that nooobody likes anything written by Tippet. A sentiment with which I heartily concur. Incidentally, I met and conversed with one of Tippets sutdents, and even he didn't like Tippet's work!

Yours, Appalled, Col. Sandy Volestrangler (Mrs.)

Dear Col Volestrangler, I am in receipt of your missive. Please note that the messenger has been taken to a safe place, and cooked. However, I am of the opinion that anyone who can claim to be inspired by Jodrell Bank needs their bumps feeling.
I am, Sir, Your Obedient Servant
