here are some poems written years ago before I started writing.

Splintered and contained

I cannot beautify
Nor break free
While ugliness is in need
Of expression
Not poetry to impress
The fiction of words
It needs to leak through
And infest
Strip truths of their dress
Naked in their own filth
And ooze out onto the floor
Into cracks between the boards
Gathering dirt along the way
Until the mass is too great to ignore
Spewing forth into fiction once more
To stagnate there
Cloaked in veils of disgust
And beauty when found
Tastes as it looks to the view
Of those who have held and unclothed their truth
Then ugliness spits back
Its calcified remains
Splintered and contained

Musical Tears

Tears splash onto the wood
But its grain cannot absorb them
They weave their way along the neck
While I ask for songs to grow
No music I strum will smite my gift
Instead my tears rust the strings
While polished glaze turns yellow with age
And broken melodies sound their notes
Through tears blind
That slide off wood into my hand
Musical tears
for my soul

A Life So Grand

Things we might leave behind when we go
Aging footprints in the snow
That quickly melt when the bright sun warms
And gives new life as the fresh day dawns
Whispered memories of times so dear
Precious hugs from those who came near
All these things just disappear

People, places, smells and tastes
Time means nothing and nothing means waste
So many things left behind to see
Hoping the meaning is known about ‘me’
Fairytales and pain, jigsaws and trains
Ink-stained hands, music and sand
We all leave behind a life so grand

Children, families with love to give
Patterns of me in you, which live
This sense of life it fills our heart
We breathe it deep to one day part
And leave behind the things we know
To watch ourselves rise as we go
And journey beyond
to a grander life show

Hi Delta. Loved all three, but Musical Tears did it for me - that awful frustration that you'll never be a world-famous musician, and nobody will ever hear the songs you write. I've got to ask a question, though. If that's the quality that you were turning out "before you started to write", what have we got in store? Modest - but apparently wrong, I'd say. Serious Well Done!!

Thanks jerry and Daffyd

I didn't realise it then but it was music which limited me. I was always very so so playing guitar and writing songs gave me little satisfaction. one day, I lifted the restriction of music and discovered poetry. I wrote these originally as songs but sang them to nobody and stored them in an old computer which I brought back to life yesterday.
