Wir hatten our holiday in Deutschland,
Zwei Wochen wir spent on the Rhine,
Sailing about in them Dampfers
Und trinken them litres of Wein.

Ich tried hard to lernen the language,
All that, with the der, das and die.
Aber try as ich will ich just couldn't.
Ich glaube it's all above me.

Wir went to this nice kleines Stuebchen
To sample ein drop of das Bier,
Wenn in comes this hairy great Kopper
Und sagte, "Was haben wir hier?"

Er said to die Barmaid. "Ein Bier please!"
Und sat auf ein seat near das door.
Wir sprechened about his career,
Und the part he had spieled in the war.

Wir ordered ein plate von that sausage
Und a few other deutsche-ish bits,
Mit a bowlful of pickled red cabbage
Und millions of little Pom Fritz.

At last was the sausage serviert,
Und der Kopper, he laughed fit to burst.
"Es ist nicht jeden Tag, meine Herren,
That an Englishman's seen at his Wurst!"

:brickwall :out:

OMG Dafydd, I read this like I was listening to Benny Hill speaking with a German accent. I loved it.

Wonderfully, wonderfully funny - until the last line, which tops even all the humour that precedes it! Thanks.

Wonderful :hurray: A very humorous use of both languages :)

I myself always mix up languages. I really do hope I never sound like this though

I had a lot of fun writing it, but I rather hope that my command of both German and English is better than this piece of whimsical nonsense suggests!

Brilliant, Dafydd, bach! I can't remember who wrote the column now, and without disinterring my library I can't find out, but there was a chap who used to write for Punch who had a column, "Let's Parle Franglais." You seem to have topped it with Deutschelish! Well done mate!

Best, H

Thanks, Hawk. Trouble is, I won't be able to get my head through the door now!! Floating on air!! I'm very glad you liked it.

the skill that went into this is beyond me. You somehow managed to use all the very few German words I have learnt and entwined them with English and formed a poem and comedy. I know all you know, (that you show) to be able to write this but my coming up with it would be quite a while after all those monkeys came up with the complete works of Shakespeare.
