I'm currently reading this book by Ken Kesey and i'm really enjoying it. It is so well written and i'm amazed at how well Kesey prolongues each 'scene' in the book, stretching them out over pages and pages but still keeping me interested.

I saw the movie a year or two ago and i remember thinking that Jack Nicholson's performance seemed a bit over the top, but now i see that he plays McMurphy pretty much perfectly. As a character, McMurphy is one of the most well-developed and interesting ones i've come across in quite a while.

The style of writing is also incredible. There are some lines that i just read and go, 'Wow, unbelievable' or that make me laugh out loud, which i rarely do when i find something funny in a book. Usually i just think to myself, 'that's quite funny.' But this book has made me actuallylaugh.

I was wondering what everybody else thinks about this book and also about the movie.

Oh thanks Sche, that's pretty helpful. It should be interesting to read what people thought of it.

I agree that Jack Nicholson plays the part fabulously. He really captures McMurphy's character remarkably well.

The book is great, I enjoyed reading it. I was confused by some of Bromden's hallucinations at first but they're integral to the narration to illustrate how trapped he felt and how much he felt his autonomy was restricted by the nurse and the government. It's definitely one to read again.

Yes Bromden's first little (i say little it was actually huge!) hallucination caught me by surprise, the one where the big nurse slows the clock down or speeds it up so he feels trapped in time. It just came at me all of a sudden and i had to look back a couple paragraphs to see if i'd missed the meaning of anything. But the hallucinations i find are a very interesting addition
