So do you finally understand the situation?
Do you finally realize where you are?
There is no way out, there is no turning back;
there is only the present moment.
If you kill yourself
you will only come back to here.
God?
God is dead. It died
in the concentration camps in World War Two.

So do you finally understand the situation?
Do you finally realize where you are?
It took a long time for you to arrive
at the destination you created.
Yes,
you created this, you created it all;
and in the end the creator
must reside with the created.
Yes,
it took a long time for you to arrive;
and here you will stay with your creation
forever.
If you kill yourself
you will only come back to here.
Hope?
there is no hope.
Did you never read the Inferno?
for, you see, Dante was right.
Dante is here somewhere;
perhaps you'd like to meet him;
but then what would you talk about with him?
the weather?
there is no weather here;
this is Hell;
what did you expect?

So do you finally understand the situation?
Do you finally realize where you are?
You will stay here forever;
there is no escape, there is no going back;
there is only the present moment;
and this, along with other things,
will be repeated
over and over.
If you kill yourself
you will only come back to here.
Memory?
you will eventually lose your memory,
and your delusion of physical reality
will pass soon enough;
and I too will pass from your view
and your hearing.
And you will be alone,
totally alone,
with nothing but dark silence
surrounding you.
Then you will understand,
then you will realize
that there is nothing
but you
and silence
and eternity.
Welcome to Hell.

Thank you. I wanted to convey the idea that hell can very well exist without physical torment or torture.

That sounds pure hell to me. Not the normally imagined one. Worse.

It's a truly chilling piece. The repeated lines fall like hammer blows.

Thank you for reading this and for commenting. I was tempted to go on with this poem, to extend it, but I'm glad I didn't. I think it is quite long enough--perhaps even a little too long.

For me it was long enough to think it was going nowhere and short enough to have been surprised you found true hell envisaged.

Good touch having the 'father of all lies' in the first person trying to quail one who may or may not have the faith to withstand his onslaught.

It's interesting that you see the narrator or the first person character as The Father of All Lies; ie., Lucifer and/or Satan. I didn't envision him--or her--as Lucifer when I first composed this poem. But now I can see that, yes, it really could be Lucifer/Satan.
