View Full Version : Lost like virginity

You have to live a while
to see the temporary nature of everything.
The stability of the past is one of those things
that once undone can never be recaptured.
Just remembered with such sweet loss.
Your life unzips as it passes.
Things cease to exist.
Buildings once full of memories no longer there.
People you shared memories with leave
and your memories are left stranded and useless.
Stability is 'Rest your head on my breast' by Maryd
your parents living and loving
Your family holiday
Your christmas tree
The light that passed on your bedroom ceiling
as cars drove past.
Your teddy collection.
Your cuddles.
Your cereals with a comic.
I never believed in santa at any age
but I believed in imagining him each year
and drawing him in red felt tip.
Paper wish lists were sent up the chimney.
The whole world had a warmth
that you recreate for your kin
So that one day
they too, can lament its loss.

You know Jerry... You are going to have to explain this to me... It seems a little to close to home for me.

As much as there is humor, sadness and sagacity all wrapped up in a nice package, it's a good thing I'm not named in this poem *wicked wink*

Hi mary d
your name check was a direct reference to your poem 'Rest your head on my breast' which came to mind when I was thinking of things that represented stabililty. I have made an alteration to the poem now to reflect this more clearly. It was also done as an internal reference within litnet as there can be few on here who aren't familiar with your wonderful poem.

best wishes
Jerry

How beautifully written, and in fact we all are going through the phases you have said. Everything fades like virginity when one becomes mature in time, for at the end of the day you will have exhausted everything and nothing remains of us and even the memories though that can be retrieved at times get obscured in a chamber of the chronicle in our mind. This is really thrilling

You know Jerry, you haven't sold me... But the poem is good.

don't explain it - I love this rambling of times past.

I like this, and the fact that it applies to everybody. The little childhood things that we take for granted at the time in our innocence and naivety, never thinking about the fact that one day it will all be over and we'll be in dreaded adulthood, without some of our close friends, or the knowledge of santa clause.
thanks for sharing this poem it was lovely to read.

Blaze- thanks for commenting, was hoping it would be universal in parts.
Mary d - You are a tough cookie. But I like you :)
Delta - think rambling is a fair appraisal. thank you.
BT - I wondered if some of the references would make sense to some, but glad you think so

thanks all
