When I was 12 years old I shot my first deer. I carried a 30 30 marlin with open sites across a piece of bottom land in East Texas about two hours before dark.
All the way there I fidgeted with the oversize red jacket my father had put on me when we got out to the truck. It was getting a bit chilly and I needed more than the thin jacket. The smart idea would have been for me to keep it on…but I didn’t do the smart thing. And I almost paid a heavy price.
