Oh God, sweet Gracie, you lifted me
When you gifted me your love and your time
You wielded me, felled me, upheld me
Gave me purpose and reason and rhyme

Oh God, sweet Gracie, when you left me
You took all your love and your light
Your essence, your presence, removed from me
And my days were all turned into night

I thank God now, sweet Gracie, you went from me
I found a new reason and rhyme
You showed me your love when you left me
For now it will not wither with time

This is bittersweet and beautifully crafted, Jerry - wonderful use of internal rhyme; and the repeated end-rhymes remind me of Yeats's 'He wishes for the cloths of Heaven'. It reads like it could be sung as song lyrics. Good stuff, I didn't have you down as such an old romantic!

(Typo: 'wither'.)

graceful and beautiful! (plus another typo "prescence" should be "presence", I suppose)...

this is beautifully written JB as a person relives each phase of love to be left with a memory, the only consolation being it is theirs to grow how it will. I suppose we all choose our own truth.
