What make car do you own?
If you own more than one car of different makes, you can pick more than one option.
If you cannot find the make of your car in this list, please let me know and it will be added.

I got a really sleek and stylish bus pass, it's a garish blue to boot.

I own a Dodge Neon, which didn't make the list. Now if it were what do I want to own, well that might be a very different answer :D

A nifty little Ford Fiesta. My first car, sadly destroyed, was a nippy little Vauxhall Corsa. I shall continue to drive cars that can be described as "---- little" until I make my 40th million, then I shall splash out on a Rolls...
On a related note, does anyone name their cars? Mine is called The Thunderchild in view of its dark-grey colour, and the fact that I was reading Wells when I bought it.

My first car was called "Shelagh", for no particular reason, then I had "D for Dog", then it sort of tailed off. Must have got boring!

I loved my Dodge Neon. It was the first car I bought totally and completely on my own, I drove that thing til the wheels fell off.
I currently have a Ford Mustang.

I hate mine, but that's mainly because I like my cars to have 4 wheel drive. See what happens when you have kids and need something affordable and able to fit everyone  One of these days I'll have my Jeep.

Sexy. I bet you pick up a lot of gals on that :ihih:
I share a VW until I get my own but if I had the money, I would definitely get a Hybrid vehicle.

Hell yes, just you watch their eyes go pop when they see me in my tight shorts!

What's a hybrid vehicle anyway?

I've never had 4 wheel drive. I still remember the morning my Neon won me over. There was a huge snowstorm the night before and I had to be to work at 5am. I got on the highway and my little champ put it's head down and plowed on through, got me all the way there without a problem. Half of my coworkers made it in which made me wonder what the hell I was doing there...

Mine isn't on there. Alfa Romeo.

Having worked for Alfa in the 164/33 era, that doesn't surprise me one bit. They may not be massively efficient, but they have inimitable style. Used to have a 33 Cloverleaf in GunMetal Grey, with full bag of mashings. Loved it!

I have a 166. It's ten years old now, so I'm thinking about replacing it. As my wife has a family-size S-Merc estate, I think I might downsize to the new Giulietta (http://files.conceptcarz.com/img/Alfa%20Romeo/2010-Alfa-Romeo-Giulietta-Image-02-1280.jpg).
Thing is, I know absolutely nothing about cars, and I care even less. I didn't learn to drive until my mid-thirties. I only bought the 166 because it has a nice face. But I have developed an abiding fondness for Alfas - even if they do turn on their own headlights in the middle of the night and drain the battery.

Stuff efficiency, and what the geeks say. They have a style that no other production car has, and a cache to boot!

Yeah so I own two cars -- that is, if by I, you mean we (Mrs. Comedian and me). We both have to drive to work and pick up kids, so it's sort of necessary. More than sort of, really.

I got me a big old purple Chrysler - a Concorde (as in "grape" - don't think my friends haven't made that connection and teased me profusely). It's not pretty, but it's roomy, I can fit almost all of my stuff in it, and it's good on gas. My mom offered me her flashy little Sunfire a couple of years ago, but I declined. While the Concorde is lame, I'm used to it and the way it feels. I can tell instantly if there's something wrong with it, I know that car inside and out.

I have an ancient Mercedes. My best car ever was a Rover:

So the general impression would seem to be that there aren't that many car fanatics among literature lovers. Who'da thunk?

Not me. A car is a tool, a machine, an inanimate object. Reliability is what goes through my mind.

I cannot say I am obsessed with cars but I am familiar with it enough to be able to use it; just as I am familiar with the vacuum cleaner or the fridge in the kitchen. I cannot pull it apart and put it together again but I have a vague idea how it works and what can go wrong with it.
Driving, on the other hand, is a different story. I love driving - especially longer distances - as it gives me time to listen to music or simply think/muse without being interrupted, which can be a great luxury at times (Don't talk to the driver! :p).
Having said that, I don't live in a crowded city so I don't have to worry about inner city traffic and so on.

I drrive a Toyota Corolla. Driving is OK. I commute, so at this point I would be glad to never drive a car again.

There's a Renault 12 at home. It's a really popular make in my country. My dad has always been fond of the French classic, ours being similar to this one:

Personally, I'm not so fond of cars, but I take it that car addicts must feel for their vehicle approximately the same I feel for my computer :p That said, I can imagine a few uses for Batman's Tumbler:

Of course I don't own a tumbler :D

My car is a diesel, a Renaut Kangoo, bought because we could fit a hoist in the back to lift Himself's (mighty heavy) electric buggy into the huge luggage space at the rear. It's the car version of the van so it's high and easy to get in and out of it, great if you are arthritic as he was and alas I am becoming. I could get a smaller car but I'm used to it and I would miss the space - when the back seats are lowered there is oodles of space to carry things, very useful going to garden centres....
My previous car was a diesel as well, more or less chosen for me by the Resident Engineer - he rated diesels for their mpg and quality of engines but I wouldn't know anything about that, though I must say I get very good mileage on long runs.
I used to be quite attached to my first car until I had a minor accident in it. I got very worked up about it until my doctor asked 'Were you hurt? No. 'Was anybody hurt?' No, but the car was damaged. 'It's a Thing,' said the doctor tartly, 'stop worrying about Things. Things don't matter. People do - worry about people if you have to worry at all.' He cured me of materialism at a stroke.

I drive a Renault Clio 1.2 16v Vavavoom. It's metallic cherry red and called Gogga (not prenounced how you'd think), which is Afrikaans/San for 'bug'...because it looks like a lady bug to me. I love my car!
My commute is all of 10-15 minutes these days, as opposed to the 1h30 it used to be. I kind of miss the old days because that hour and a half was my 'me time' in the mornings. I could just listen to music and think about anything and everything, like Scher said. I don't miss the petrol bill and the traffic though... Overall I like driving, especially road trips!

How many miles a year do you drive on average? I did about 12K last year.

I have a nippy little Ford Fiesta like Loka, and I call it my baby. It may not be super duper cool, but it's economical, and sweet. It is my first car, as I only passed my test last year, but even if I had oodles of money, I think I would stick with it, as I don't need a big car for just me. I would get 4 doors in the future though, as I got a 2 door, so it's not so good if you want to load up the little sweetie with anything bulky.

That's about what I do too. But now that we've added a couple more in the car pool to work, it should less.

Enjoy that first car. It's like a first love. :D
I loved my first car (an old Audi 5000) and I loved it for a little while until it started breaking down repeatedly and costing me an arm and a leg. Then like most loves, it turned into hate. It looked better than it ran, a real lemon! But I was young and stupid. :wink5:
