I am intrigued by rhetoric, especially as practised by Shakespeare and his contemporaries - the use of both larger scale forms such as encomium, ekphrasis and amplification, but perhaps even more the smaller scale handling of sentences and lines such as anaphora and periphrasis.
I wonder if there are other enthusiasts for this branch of literary expertise in the forum, and if they would be willing to begin an interesting dialogue on the subject

Isn't it time to move on from formulae and be original?

You might just as well say - isnt it time to move on from originality and be skilful?

This one didn't get going originally - anyone interested? It's such a fascinating topic.... and one of the essential keys to literature of the Renaissance period

This reader is interested in rhetoric as it has evolved through history- even studied it in college. However the specific era you mentioned is of no interest to this reader.
