I'm taking a writing course, and we are charged with coming up with a curriculum on writing ourselves. So do you have any good recommendations? I'm looking for something a little more advanced than Stephen King's "On writing."

There are many people who can suggest but you have to provide us with a particular field, like fantasy, real-life, science fiction, guides etc.

I'm not looking for anything genre specific. Just a good and acclaimed book on the principles of writing. An overview, if you will.

University professors of English stand by Orwell's essay 'Politics and the English Language' as the best brief manifesto of English composition.

Thank you. I will implement that essay in my curriculum. But if there are any extensive books on the subject those would also be well appreciated.
If I were charged with deciding upon a curriculum for writing, the syllabus would contain more writing prompts than reading lists.
While, I do not discount the necessity of reading, if one is (or wants to become) a writer, then one should write and write daily. Start with 500 word prompts, then increment until students are writing at least 2,000 words a day. I would offer alternative writing prompts rather than a single one, but perhaps not always.
Exploring various genres, voices, settings can be part of the prompt as well, but if you’re curriculum requires something more advanced than Stephen King’s On Writing then I imagine the students are more advanced and may have a voice and genre already well in hand.
