first to answer the call first to the fray



first to enter into that final peace



that to where hedgehogs call their final rest



was barely a test a trap less cunning



of wire and mesh construct a hidden spring



partially hidden with gingham bunting



perhaps greater hedgehogs have lived and died



but pious was dear to me and I cried



then with a wrath i knew not existed



twelve skunks i marshalled to the arena



alas our intelligence was faulty



nowhere was hawkman to mete out his worst



perhaps its best not to trust in a bat



in light they can barely make out a horse

Poor Pious, his death can’t be laid at my door,
no hedgehog need fear when above him I soar,
as hedgehogs the gardener’s friend I declare
and for them just smiles on my face will I wear.
This crime that in verse so unjustly accuses
Hawkman refutes and quite staunchly refuses
to claim for himself or for any a friend
a part in poor Pious’s impious end.
The skunks I don’t know though their fame I have heard,
they’re generally not in the range of this bird,
but badger’s are likely to kill and to eat
hedgehogs unwarily out on their feet,
such crimes have I seen with my very own eyes,
so blame not the Hawkman and don’t tell these lies,
for vengeance is terrible, harsh and quite swift
on libellous writings set down when you’re pissed.
Tempt not the bird with his witty sharp quill
or your verse’s sad corpse a fresh grave may well fill.

So brave is the hedgehog, so brave and so fine
You certainly can't say that he's lacking in spine.
One young skunk left, leaving only eleven
Who helped our poor hedgepig to hedgepiggy heaven.

I'm sorry to say that Daffy is, for me at least, synomymous with a certain duck :D

Nevertheless, this admirable cartoon character is a perennial favourite of mine, so perhaps, on the whole, it is an appropriate handle for one who possesses so significant a talent to amuse. :)
