Hello Clarice, said Hannibal
slurping like a cannibal,
wise and witty, quite urbane,
it’s such a shame he’s so insane.
Generally he tends to kill
those who plague him, treat him ill.
Some times though it doesn’t pay
to be just standing in his way.

Hi Hawk, nice to see your sense of humour remains undiminished.

An epicure, known for his taste
where nothing slaughtered goes to waste
a child or slut or vigilante
and all washed down with chilled Chianti.
In Lecter’s company - stay smart
in case you end up as a starter
Check his eyes, what do you see?
He looks as sane as you or me.

Coincidentally I've just been writing a short story about a psychopathic, lesbian, Lithuanian waitress working in a local hotel (don't ask) and indirectly discovered that Lecter hailed from Vilnius, so surmised that she might even be his long-lost daughter.

I think "though" in the penultimate line is contradictory but over-all the wit and fluency of this is irresistible.

Thanks hill, I enjoyed that and to continue in the same vein:

A tasty morsal you prepare
to feed us while we sit and stare
and contemplate unwholesome fate
that brings us to the dinner plate.
How soon can we expect to see
this Lithuanian waitress' tea
served up upon the forum's platter
(I want to hear the lesbian's patter)
her psychopathic, post-kill quip
delivered like a swinging whip.

Thanks Prince, I was thinking that sometimes Lecter killed because he needed to in order to further other aims (like escape or because he wanted your job) rather than just because he felt like it :D

best, H

Hannibal, Darling, you are free
To eat what you like, but don't eat me!
If you're hungry, I'm fairly sure
You'd much prefer my mother-in-law.

Loved that one!! I wish I knew how you did it!

Thanks Dafydd, but:

Mothers in law I’ve always found
To have a flavour quite profound
Although their faces, always dower
Tend to make them taste quite sour.
If you don’t want to be main course
Don’t stand so close to the brown sauce.

Cheers - H

A gourmet procession here we have
of metaphors and metabolic delights,
someone’s liver, someone else’s lights.
We poets have always been known
to have strange appetites, for similes and gore,
but what we really want
is more!

Ma-in-law with chips and beans -
Strange words in an epistle.
You'd have to boil her up for hours,
She's 80 per cent gristle!

The other cannibals I've known
when they to me long pig have shown
describe a human's tastiest morsal
as being from a female's dorsal
or otherwise to my alarm
they like a girlie's upper-arm.

Dear Hawkman, I feel such a chump.
Whene'er I discover a lump
Of meat in my stew
I'll be thinking of you,
And hoping it just isn't rump.

Although consuming human rump
may leave you feeling quite a chump
just hope the sweetbreads aren't included.
If you eat them you're precluded
from enjoying better fare
which we'll eat when you're not there.

Oh boy, what a "boy's exchange"!

Back to Hannibal, even Didon had seen the great general in her vision of future just before she killed herself...

"Generally he tends to kill
those who plague him, treat him ill."

could also read:

"General, he tends to kill
etc..."

was it intended?

I'm pouring out on you multicoloured rose petals, intoxicating with their blend of scents, to feast your sense of smell plus your eyes on... Bar

Sweet Bar,

I confess I had not consciously considered this interpretation but that you have done so gives a very light piece added depth, so I'm certainly not going to complain :D

Would that I had your eyes to see
the fragrant petals poured for me
and so my thanks need not be wished
I humbly bless the giver and the gift.

Live and be well - H

I knew my petals would awake your female aspects at last! Thanks. Bar

Lord! what a thought... The only female attributes I possess were borrowed from the Harpўĭae, (my mother's gift :D )
