The Eighth Day of the Week

This is the day I have chosen
to do what needs to be done;
those little jobs I have postponed
because, on the whole, I’d rather have fun
or read a book and visit a friend
or the zip in my fly I’ve had to mend,
before going out to visit the friend,
which I’d rather do than the tasks delayed
by going to parties and trying to get laid.

On the eighth day of the week
I’ll buy the gun that I’ll use to shoot
the prime minister in parliament,
which I didn’t do before
because I was playing my flute.
Perhaps I’ll buy a tank and blow up the banks,
it’ll surely earn me the nation’s thanks.
All the things I said I’d do when I got a round tuit,
on the eighth day, I’ll get off my rear and actually do it.
I’ll buy the round tuit.

You see,
the eighth day isn’t a day of rest,
it’s the day when the idle are at their best.

I am ashamed to confess that I had overlooked where I had seen it, indeed, even worse, that I had seen it. One of those subliminal processings of a line which was indeed inspired by your comment! It's a date, comrade; on the eighth day we'll man the barricades or storm the winter palace (but as a stauch monarchist, I refuse to decapitate a king). All politicians are fair game though, as are: bankers, managers, councilors, town planners, and busy-bodies.

I really do play the flute but very badly :D I wish I understood 'Bb' though...

When I was at school I started learning to play a Bb trombone. I couldn't keep it up. The howls of laughter from my mother every time she heard me gliss on the slide, forced me to give it up. :D

First time I've heard of a poem described as a "jumble sale", but it's a brilliant description or another one of your flashes of genius that I've enjoyed so much. I have a round tuit in my bathroom, to which you are welcome, assuming that the GPO could get it to you before Old Age gets us both!

It might well be possible that they could deliver it before the last trump but it would probably arrive in pieces. Thank you, comrade, for enjoying my flight of fancy. I am currently working on somehting for the short story thread so I may well be curtailing the poetry output for the next few days. Hope you won't get withdrawal symptoms :D
