moiaussi

such a vile nom de plume for a moiaussi to view

why not cheesenip or woodbine or even curlew

still he writes with such verve with so much flair

rarely the doggerel he crafts with words quite debonair

not profligate but profound pounding out his tome

of posies of prose and here and there a poem

i skitter he starts and both of us halt

the silence screaming out an unearthly gestalt

now is the time to be more discerning with food

perhaps if i shower him with gifts like shaved wood

sprinkled liberally with nibbled bits of book

of inurbane authors undeserving a second look

might i escape his snares and prolong my fate

might i escape once more to the bosom of my mate

Hawk

"the silence screaming out an unearthly gestalt"!

where are your ears?

tS

where are the snares?
why should moiaussi escape?
why "moi aussi"?
why white ink?
what do I miss?
would you instruct me?

It's quite a tribute, all the same!

very best to you - Bar

ETTUBRUTE (for t S)

The werebird, though grateful for all of your rhymes,
Is still quintessentially hawk-like at times,
renowned for his appetite, chasing food down,
especially fur bearing rodents in towns.
You see he is handsome and fierce and just
the nom-de-plume fits him; it’s simply a must.
That moiaussie appreciates what he can write
is all very well (but he shouldn’t sit tight)
for Hawkman, or so he has come to be known,
ain’t going to stand for it, not in his home.
An Englishman’s gaff is his chateau they say,
which this parabuteo guards night and day,
allowing no rodents to set up a nest
anywhere near where he writes of his best.
With more than just one of the beasties about
he’ll gobble the lot, from their tails to their snouts;
worthless the gifts they would give to appease,
they really should run and escape to the trees
or live in a hedgerow, it’s where they belong,
for Hawkman is saying it’s time to be gone.

:D

Hi Bar22do.

Thank you for noticing my line 'silence screaming...'

Ok. Channeling my inner moiaussi:

Snares are always in the mind of a moiaussi; heightened as an element in 'his' discovery; ie: not necessarily evident now, but a distinct possibility hereafter.

Escape - Only the snares or contrivances that may appear need be escaped (this moiaussi would rather live in a symbiotic dynamic; mutualistically or commensally - not parasitic in nature).

"moi aussi" - after 3-years of French study this is one of a number of couplets/phrases I still remember (although I know how many days are in each month only by reciting the French rhyme I learned in the second grade- go figger).

Any way, why? A multipurpose reason. 1. I agreed with your humanity in Hawkman's poem comments [moi aussi]. 2. the moiaussi lives under the same roof, shouldn't 'he' also should have a say whether or not he is shown the door (or worse). 3. I thought the word 'cutsie' whether as a name for the antagonist or what a moiaussi might refer to 'himself' [other than a mouse or mousie]. 4. Perhaps moiaussi's origins are French. I didn't delve that much into characterization; though 'he' knew what a 'nom de plume' was (though even I learned this in the most plebeian way - I learned the phrase from an old 'Yogi Bear' cartoon as a child, LOL).

What did you miss ? hmm You get the anthropomorphizing thing with moiaussi. As I read Hawkman's comments I feel he might be in need of some anthropomorphizing to a degree, LOL.

The wood shavings were originally ****timwood shavings (how funny - the word police snagged my word: think 'merde-imwood' maybe, LOL) - I know you know the significance of that. Unfortunately it made that verse more cumbersome than I liked, and the reference might have been lost on some.

Colour of the page should be #99FFFF or a beautiful (to my eyes) baby blue - a colour of innocence. Perhaps your browser didn't like my colour choice, although I did check its webbyness at 4096 Color Wheel (http://www.ficml.org/jemimap/style/color/wheel.html)

Moiaussi thought some of Hawkman's choices of reading material lacking. Perhaps a very discriminating moiaussi, n'est pas ?

I loved writing this poem. Elements of "archy and mehitabel" by Don Marquis here and there perhaps (including all lower case). Not exactly a "Ratatouille", but still fun.

Thank you for your interest of a most minor piece.

p.s. You > hack "pearls and diamonds"... precious.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

@ Hawkman "ETTUBRUTE"... Brilliant !

Ignore my earlier comment on you needing further anthropomorphizing , LOL.
I hadn't thought (duh) of the wire nibbling possibilities.

Perhaps a safe and sane trap for moiaussi and his multitudinousness minions might be appropriate for their relocation to said trees and hedgerows.

This has been fun.

Thank you Hawkman for your original poem as well (and your comments).

What a magnificent arrogance, Hawk! ;) I wish you have a chateau, though strangely my strong feeling is that, when you have one, it'll come with Ratatouille as the chief of your kitchens - mischievious destiny - or - an advent of new times when

"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them." Isaiah 11:6

(I don't mean to suggest you'll have to wait that long for your chateau!)

Though I should first surrender to the excellence of this Ettubrute of yours. Which I do now.

t Stately, definitely Don Marquis's reincarnation!!! (for as they say, "the story can't be over"!)

(btw: thanks for treasuring "pearls and diamonds".)

What must have misled me is the fact that my ears are Portuguese and French or otherwise moulded first. It has only now "dawned" upon me there might be a phonetic likeness (in English) between mouse and moiaussi.

-Kudos for your 1);
-great lesson for rodents' assertiveness re their territorial claims in your 2);
-"cutsie" sounds to me a bit like "can't see", very reassuring for the rodents!

Yes, I need to adjust the colours on my screen!

And, to further celebrate Don Marquis, here is

-for Hawk:

"If you want to get rich from writing, write the sort of thing that's read by persons who move their lips when they're reading to themselves." Don Marquis
(I move mine when I read your poetry, so there is a chance for your chateau)

-for dear hack:

"Writing a book of poetry is like dropping a rose petal down the Grand Canyon and waiting for the echo." Don Marquis
(from the bottom of my canyons I do hear each and every echo of the petals you drop)

-for you, t S, for your cockroach'ity and your lower case: "

"dear boss (...) the only reason i tolerate you is because
you seem less human to me than most of them
here is what the ants are saying (...) it is indeed
as i have been reading lately
a great period in which to be alive
and it is a cheering thought to think
that god is on the side of the best digestion"

-for you both, hawk and t S:

"insects are not always
going to be bullied
by humanity
some day they will revolt
i am already organizing
a revolutionary society to be
known as the worms turnverein"

-muttering to myself (rather despondently, for it has a special connotation for me):

"i once heard the survivors
of a colony of ants
that had been partially
obliterated by a cow s foot
seriously debating
the intention of the gods
towards their civilization"

cheers :cheers2:

Sweet Bar, I'll reply to this properly in a minute, but has hack posted in this strand? If he has, why can't I see it?

He hasn't but was mentioned by tS on the occasion on my comment on hack's poem and I sent the link to hack. are we not an impressive-palling-up-network?

tailor, thank you. With regard to mice and electrics, I have on more than one occasion, after detecting a fault in an electrical ciruit, discovered the mummified remains of a dead mouse next to an electrical cable which it had been gnawing on. Singularly inconvenient to the mouse and the human resident I think you'll agree!

I too have enjoyed this little exchange and I thank you for your poetical offering with all due humility.

What a magnificent arrogance, Hawk! ;) I wish you have a chateau, though strangely my strong feeling is that, when you have one, it'll come with Ratatouille as the chief of your kitchens - mischievious destiny

I remember, G Gordon Liddy pronouncing on TV that, “…all European fur bearing mammals are, in fact, edible…” yum, yum :D

I am reminded of PT Barnham who had as part of one of his exhibitions a cage with a lion and a lamb. When asked how long he expected the exhibit to be displayed he answered, “…As long as the supply of lambs holds out.”

Though I should first surrender to the excellence of this Ettubrute of yours. Which I do now.

Thanks Bar ;)

I know that this remark is not addressed to me but have I missed one of your posts or one of hacks? I seem to be a four way conversation with one of the participants invisible and unheard…

I love the Archie and Mehitabel stories but sadly I don’t have them in my library. Thank you for doing your bit for my chateau fund :D

Thanks, for this. The cockroach is indeed a gifted philosopher even if a potential revolutionary.

:nono: hawk (a wonderful nom de plume, btw!), please read me precisely! didn't I allude to a possible advent of a new era??? what you're reminded of might regard what'll hopefully soon be bygone days!

but I mainly want to remember the pleasure I took in interfering in this exchange, and for which I'm hopefully forgiven (or in which I was naturally accepted)...

Hawk, had your rodent eaten the book by misfortune, I made a rapid research for you on google and found you could purchase it for US$ 3,90 at:

http://www.amazon.com/Archy-Mehitabel-Don-Marquis/dp/0385094787

for it's a must in each library!!!!

Sweet Bar,

You require no forgiveness, every bright blue word is a blessing, not interference. Personally I cant imagine life without you :D

A thousand thanks for the link. H

Cousin,
I missed this thread, sadly my time here has been
minimal of late. It seems that now everything to be
said has been said, (a sorry conclusion for ersatz
poets). I might only mention the mouse in the
Exlax, but we all know how that ends.
...peace...
(in an aside): Bar, I only speak one language,
imperfectly, thank you for your instruction.
I must caution you as to what is written about
pearls before swine.

Thanks for the inspiration, I hope you all are
OK with a little rodent-like pilfering.
