What do you do to beat the heat?
I literally creep out at the prospect of stepping outside in the blood boiling heat. My so called vacations are about to end and it's still so hot here. I am thinking about carrying a chilled lemonade with me to the college. Hopefully it will help.

in Australia - air con, air con and more air con - oh and sweat while guzzling litres of water...

Those little battery-operated electric fans you can shove in a pocket/bag might help.

Well that's a good idea! I'll look for one.

My room gets no direct sunlight, so it's nice and cool (if a little gloomy), and it means I can work.

I'm also planning to have a nice, refreshing 'summer' holiday in Iceland later on!

Water, water, and more water. My guys work outside in the heat. We remind them to take frequent breaks and to make sure they are drinking water and gatorade.

Get one of the ones with the little water bottle attached. It gives a mist with the air, and it works wonders. Other than that, lots and lots of cool water works for me. In the summer time I take a bottle everywhere.

In the bad old days before I had a place with air conditioning, I would lie in a cold bath for about 45 minutes before I could go to bed. I couldn't sleep without draining all that excess heat out of me.

I can't stand heat, so I guess I live in the right place, but it even gets to hot for me here on the ice, the last few days and weeks it gets around 20°C , I can't stand that, I'm a winter type... but I just hide in my kitchen, it's dark and gloomy there. (I know 20°c ain't that hot but I'm a 5°c type and lower)

I can empathise - much above 20, and my brain just shuts down...

I love the heat! I would prefer a dry heat to the humidity we get here, but I'll take what I can get.

It's 30 degrees today, feels like 40 degrees celcius, and I have yet to break a sweat! I also avoid air conditioning if I can help it. It feels so unnatural.

Same here. I usually hide out in the basement, so luckily it doesn't get above 20 that often where I live or I'd miss the whole summer.

I myself don't like the fake coolness. It almost feels like as if it's piercing your bones.

How do I beat the heat? I enjoy every last drop of it. I work outside, sweat like hell, drink some ice water, then go for a swim in the lake.

Exactly how hot are we talking here?

30C and I’m a happy camper. And no self-respecting private residence in Holland has air-conditioning…although I’m rather strangely seduced by the white noise it produces. :drool5:

Everywhere I go, I carry a little "greenwise" cooler. I place a terry cloth at the bottom, some aluminum foil and place a big baggie with a cup of ice cubes, a soda, a cold bottle of water and a orange juice packet...it's great, I never feel drained anymore; though I come home drenched in perspiration.

What do you do to beat the heat?Nothing... apart from enjoying it. My ability to cope with high temperatures seems to be unusually high. As long as I have something to drink it does not bother me in the least, and if it ever does all I need to do is to imagine an ordinary January morning. Problem solved. :biggrin5:

I currently find myself in my friend Steve's appartment in Edmonton. It is too hot. I think I'm going to die, there's no basement for me to crawl into and opening a window just makes it more hot.

40 C and above. Without Air Conditioning there's little I can do to beat it other than to just absorb myself in work (even if it means totally pointless jobs) so that I can keep my brain off the scorching weather.

That is a good thing to do. It is, however, too hot to do anything because I start sweating like mad. To top it all, load-shedding is driving me crazy! Air conditioners seem like a distant dream.:-)

 Sounds like how the kids and I handle it. We find water to play in and go there :D I would kill for a pool of my own, but it is no hardship to go visit with my grandparents for a day of swimming and good company.
