Hi everyone!

I am quite new to Dante's Divine Comedy. Please help me answer and understand this question:

The first five circles in hell have a lesser degree of punishment compared to the other circles. How did Dante made this evident to the readers? What are the tools that he used in terms of the punishments, settings, creatures found and attitudes or dispositions of the souls in the said first five circles that are different from the rest of the circles?

We don't do people's homework here. You didn't make that question up. That's a teachers's question to you. Go do your homework.

Please do yourself a favour and read it. Not only will you have the answer (it's very obvious) but it's a wonderful book, I promise. It's fast paced and never gets boring! If you struggle with some of the language or imagery get yourself some sparknotes (http://www.sparknotes.com/poetry/inferno).

*EDIT*
 Excellent! Usually I'm the one rapping them over the knuckles :D I was busy answering and was called away to a meeting...I return and submit, and there you've beaten me to it, Virgil.
