I am in brain lock and drew this up and thought about posting it....

Have you ever felt that you need to write…
But don’t know what to write about?

Your mind is active, Your feelings racing
Way ahead of your fingers and words.

So in an effort I will visit my
“In process file” and see what
There is to be found.

I send you My Original Quotes.

Please feel free to add yours…..

“Today I was very proud, I told someone you were my friend.” Amanda Curtis

“As the wind blows and the sun rises and sets and the moon grows full, as sure as all these things occur in the motion of nature…so is my love for you. I may not feel your physical touch, look into your eyes or hear your voice whisper into my ear of burning desires but our spirits bring us together in our place of time.” Amanda Curtis

“Someday, somewhere, someone will come to me and hold me and love me and then I will become whole…but please whoever you are hurry; for I am very lonely.” Amanda Curtis

Well?

OK…here is a half baked poem….finish it please!

She fell right into my lap
And showed me the way
Some how I left her slip,
Slip away.
And lost all that I had
Ever hoped to find
Let her slip
Back into the divine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Some how I left her slip,
Slip away.
And lost all that I had
Ever hoped to find
Let her slip
Back into the divine."

Someday I'll acknowledge
Sometime I will find
A voice all alone
And return her yet mine... :wink5:

Writer's block is a myth; there's no such thing as writer's block; it doesn't exist. It's an excuse for lazy writers. If you're stuck on something, leave it, go on to something else, and come back later.

Well Mr. Melson I reckon I am far from lazy as I did write something! Even if it is simple or dim-witted it is written.

Welcome to Lit Net ~ Hope you like it here!

Well, it certainly looks as if you've provided a good, succinct remedy for Writer's Block - LOL :conehead:

I agree with the latter. If you don't know what comes next, just leave it until you feel like you are over flowing with ideas...then return. :D

Actually a writer's block is due to a writer's lack of confidence to continue. I'm experiencing it now. I've read what I've written over and over; still, I'm not satisfied. I just can't continue.

Just a suggestion, but don't read it any more. Put it in a drawer for a while, then take it out, don't read anything but the last sentence, then set off again. I've never yet read anything of mine reptrospectively that I've particularly liked, because there are always improvements you can make, although tha's true of anything in life!
Remember, you may not have confidence in it, but those who read very probably will.
Don't ever give up.

Thanks, dafydd. I usually come here, after a long absence, when I experience the block I call "dark night"--my lamp is off when I don't do any writing. Reactivating my presence in the forum helps me regain my confidence by absorbing literary vibes from others.

Good scheme - go with it! All the best.

Mr. Melson, wouldn't your suggestion to leave it and go on to something else if you're stuck on something substantiate the OP's contention that Writer's Block is more than a myth or an excuse for laziness?

It seems you simply stated your opinion as a fact. It might be that when you experience writer's block, you have found that it is due to lack of confidence; however, isn't it possible that writers can be blocked for various reasons?

I have certainly experienced myriad reasons for various blocks but find the most common are because, as kittypaws finds, my mind is racing; working faster than my hands can write or type. There is no dearth of subject matter or motivation or confidence in these situations, simply over stimulation, but there can be other reasons as well.

I suppose if one just wants to write any old garbage, writers block is a myth, but if you are attempting to write something specific, to a particular standard, then it is a problem. Certainly, it isn't indicative of laziness, unless one just writes for profit - the worst possible motive. It's ever so easy to suggest this, but try not to worry. the World's greatest writers, brilliant essayists, have had the same problem, so it isn't as if you are on your own. Even Beethoven admitted that he had days when it wouldn't come, and looking at his canon of works, it makes me feel better when sometimes I can't come up with the goods. Relax, remember that you aren't alone, and it'll sort itself.

I don't think writer's block is a myth - art has a rhythm to it, a flow. Those who play sports can actually feel something akin to writer's block when on the field or rink things just don't come together - hand-eye, communication, imagination, forgetting the basics. It isn't because you're lacking talent, it's because you're lacking balance and focus. I remember reading about Herman Melville complaining in a letter to a friend about the trouble he was having writing a story that meant so much to him - it was a chore sometimes he said. But he found a way, and Moby Dick is not just a testament to his great talent, but his ability to put that talent on paper!

So the question becomes how does one regain that focus and allow the talent we have to flow once again? You could find out what's blocking it (personal issues, stress, dead end storyline, etc.,), but that often takes more thinking than just finding a way to change your state! Some people bungie jump or do something similarly contrary and that will certainly snap a person out of their malaise, but I find that a little more exciting than I need. For me, music or a movie, or a walk with the dogs by the beach, or a conversation with a particularly imaginative friend (thank God I have a few of those). Think of it in terms of "resetting" yourself!

Of course, if it's a piece you're working on and you've hit the wall - it's time to pivot on the plot line or drop it to work on another piece. Somedays are made for writing love stories, others for writing horror!

Overproduction is probably the answer. It's difficult to get worse with more practice. Allow your mind to exercise its creativity and continue to produce, you can toss out the things you hate and edit the things that are worthwhile working on.
