A poem based on a dream I had

I Don't Want Your Lies

I don't want your petty lies
even if they are intended
as drops of honey
falling from nightmare skies.

I rather you keep silent
then speak your bittersweet nothings
that derive from an empty
hollow space.

Don't give me your reassurances
as you stare at me with
cold dead eyes that reflect
no hint of warmth.

I know perfectly well the truth
so don't give me false caresses
that graze my flesh
like razor edged shark's skin.

Although one can't escape the vehement power of this, it does backfire a little or raise a bit of Methinks the lady/man doth protest too much - i.e., we have to take the speaker's word for it that the person addressed does lie, and a wee bit of smart-a** in me is prompted to respond to the title: "Whose lies, then, do you want?"

But, to reiterate, the pain in this is overwhelming.

I like this "razor edged shark's skin. ". Not to geek out too much--but feeling dermal denitcles was one of the coolest sensations I've ever felt with my hands.

'A poem based on a dream I had' establishes such an astonishing authority!!

What I enjoy the most (but would not work without the previous stanza)

I rather you keep silent
then speak your bittersweet nothings
that derive from an empty
hollow space.

Love it!!! Thanks for sharing!

DM, it sounds as if your dream was daringly telling aloud what the N could not tell in the real time... a very healing process then, if this was the case!
With TheEarthIsRound, I too like S2 the best, though all of your poem has a unity that strengthens its intense protest. Thank you - be well! Bar

Thank you, though truth be told this poem really does not come from any personal experience I have had.

what an interesting dream, then... worthwhile exploring...

Yes, though I do not recall the details it was quite strange, but it very well might have been influenced by poetry of others I have been reading.

It's weird but it happened to me, you speak what I felt once. It's about someone I met in my past: ...."cold dead eyes that reflect
no hint of warmth"
