Need a help in writing an essay....

Hi,
I need help in writing an essay on some good topic of Literature (my major), but so much confused as I don't have any idea how a good essay look likes and also I am unable to find some good topic. Since literature involves other people's writing as well as your own (?) a good starting point might be to focus on your favourite author, or one or two particular books written by that author. Write something that compares the themes, characterisations or styles of the books in question. You could also include external influences that might have inspired the author to write the book(s) you have chosen, how he/she describes a particular time or portion of society, and perhaps how the chosen work(s) fit into the author's genre as a whole.

It will involve reading a good deal, using your analytical powers and taking notes as groundwork for your paper - but since you are majoring in English this should not be a problem hopefully.
