At a trivial English morning,
Breakfast tea, scones and muffins--
Such a setting thus begins:
For great men have their wounding spots
Say I fiercely to my darling,
Such great a picture ruined by some trivial rots!
What of the small men like myself:
Who stands on no ground,
Going nowhere, wanting something,
And accomplishing nothing.
What is the use of the trivial setting--
The wife, the household, that keeps on nagging
I say, in truth, what quagmire I’m in!
If some intelligent companion
Guardian my way through heaven,
Would I still be here, be here,
Enjoying the muffins ruined
By such an apron in front of me!
She stays silent, oh the weather is fine
As if some birds flying through
Ridiculing my trivial monologue.
Oh, oh, Alas, alas, Who nags now
And what Nagging I have in me!
Breakfast tea, scones and muffins--
Such a setting thus begins:
For great men have their wounding spots
Say I fiercely to my darling,
Such great a picture ruined by some trivial rots!
What of the small men like myself:
Who stands on no ground,
Going nowhere, wanting something,
And accomplishing nothing.
What is the use of the trivial setting--
The wife, the household, that keeps on nagging
I say, in truth, what quagmire I’m in!
If some intelligent companion
Guardian my way through heaven,
Would I still be here, be here,
Enjoying the muffins ruined
By such an apron in front of me!
She stays silent, oh the weather is fine
As if some birds flying through
Ridiculing my trivial monologue.
Oh, oh, Alas, alas, Who nags now
