Not sure if this has been done in some other thread :)

You can post iamges of the place you live in, be it a city, town, village etc.

I live in Thessalonike (most common spelling of it in english appears to be Thessaloniki) which is the capital of the greek province of Macedonia. It has around 1,5 million people, and was founded around 2300 years ago by Kassander, one of Alexander the great's diadochoi.

Later on it became capital of one fourth of the Roman Empire, under the tetrarchy system.

Finally it was the second most important city of the Byzantine Empire, and there exist tens of ancient churches from that period here :)

But enough with the introduction, here are some pics :)

Not sure if this has been done in some other thread :)In a way it has, as some such pictures have been pusted in Pictures Taken By you... (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20158) but never mind that: I think this a good subject for a thread. I'll see what I can find to add to it.

That is a new bridge in our city called The Samuel Beckett Bridge - I think the shape of it is designed to evoke the image of a harp... Or am I wrong on that Niamh?

I could post pretty pictures, but instead I'm gonna post some greyish ugly ones from Google maps.

Here is the street I grew up on.

This is the river down from where I grew up.

Seriously. On the right hand side there used to be 5 houses.

I'll have to dig up more pictures to show the better parts of town.

It does look like a harp or violin...one of those stringed instruments.

Here's my home town of Cincinnati (the city anyway)

Where I live is a bit more suburban than all that, but we're on the outskirts. I think it is maybe 20 minutes for me to get into down town.

A kid fell off of that last cliff just last month. Don't worry, he's okay (just some scrapes, and the poor little guy lost his cell phone). That's what happens when you get wasted in the dark right beside Hell's Gates (actual name for it).

All that open space makes me feel agoraphobic, I'm not entirely comfortable unless at least 50% of the skyline is obscured by buildings.

Edit: Guess I'll also include a picture of Montreal.

Yep its a harp. The designer wanted to invoke the impression of a harp lying on its back. It is an amazingly fantastic bridge. It also turns sideways to allow boats to pass.

Thanks so much for that super picture, Turquoise Sunset: I visited Paarl when I went to SA a couple of years ago and your picture brought back some happy memories. My guide was a Cape Town man who delighted in taking me 'off the beaten track' to show me the beauties of your country - I was particularly interested in SA Flora and he took me to all sorts of wild places, including up into those mountains in the background, to show me flowers in their natural habitat. I'm saving hard for a return trip.

Well, I spend half my time in Llandudno, North Wales, which is where my folks are:

And the other half of my time in Durham, which has a wonderful cathedral, but very little else:

True true. However, the weather might be great mostly, but the water is so cold around Cape Town you might as well be in Wales :p

My hometown of Waco, Texas

This behemoth is the Grand Lodge of Texas headquarters and located behind the courthouse.
I have always thought it strange that it is not located in a much larger city like Dallas or Houston.

This is the Alico Building. At 21 stories It was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River when it was built in 1910.
As a testament to the structural integrity it withstood a direct hit from an F5 tornado that destroyed downtown Waco and killed 114 people.
It is now mostly empty.

Waco also has numerous large churches, a few of them resembling mini-cathedrals.

This is a time capsule house dating from 1873.
Almost everything, outside and in, survive from this period.

Yeah, too bad they spelled it wrong. hahahaha, when I was younger I went with a group of friends to Toronto. Another friend told us we had to go to Yonge street so when we got to Toronto we of course looked for "Young" street.
