... so I'm asking here for recommendations. I'd like to discover a poet or two I haven't read before, and maybe have never heard of before. Preferably somebody who's still alive, or who died less than, say, twenty years ago. I'm looking for someone contemporary, not one of the classic old poets.
I'm looking for ambitious, serious poetry that takes on big themes. The kind of poetry that should be read aloud by someone with a big, authoritative voice, like James Earl Jones. I'm not looking for love poetry, nor mewling little odes to cats, nor twee self-examinations by broken souls with their heads up their patoots, if you get my meaning. I'm looking for big, masculine (I don't want to use that word, but it just popped out) powerful poetry. It can be any length, lyrics to epics.
Right now, my favorite poet is Robinson Jeffers, but I'm not necessarily looking for a clone of him.
