This is a very well-crafted piece of writing, whether fiction or non-fiction.
And the ending, of course, is a haunting climax to a harrowing story.

I'm just curious why you chose that title - reference to a battle that took place on the other side of the Atlantic during the earliest stages of the war when the story doesn't seem directly related. If it is indeed in memory of a family member it still seems a strange 'in memoriam'.

A powerful piece though.
