Now Saramago and God
pull at the net
as one

and feed each other
whole truths

plucked
like flashing minnows
from its infinite expanse

Nice tribute, though Saramago was an athiest so perhaps might be a little disappointed to find himself fishing with God. Or perhaps not. Nice, neat little poem.

I could never quite fall in love with Saramago as much as other people have but I agree with the previous post about the neatness of this, the economy of it.

Sadly I had to look him up, not having come across him before, so initially I didn't get the point. However, even without the background knowledge I too had to admire the economy of expression and the effortless grace with which you communicate it.

Bravo hack, another little gem.

Live long and prosper. H

I could never quite fall in love with Saramago as much as other people have...

My Prince, I am surprised to hear that Saramago leaves you cold. In my
view, his masterpiece is "The Gospel According to Jesus Christ",not "Blindness".
Nearly as great are "The History of the Siege of LIsbon" and "Balthasar and Blimunda".
For me, "The Year of the Death of Ricardo Ries" was a wonderful
introduction to the poet Fernando Pessoa, who has become a favorite of mine.
I know that he lived a full and productive life as an author, but I will miss
awaiting Jose's next book.

As he said, Death is still alive... but although death with interruptions has now become death continuous for José, you'll be still able to await his very last book... Elephants' journey or sth like that (I don't know what will be the English title) is apparently under translation, to be published late this fall, so I read (and the little I read of it is worthwhile awaiting!)... Will he, with his very LAST, throw us again into another of his imagination's implausible situations to test our reactions and his protagonists'? It's true that his implacable adhesion to communism somewhat compromises the perspective of him fishing with god (with whom!!?), but "what if..." he does! and who's going to tell off whom...
I'm back, to fish this little gem of yours hack, and it's an opportunity to express all my thanks for your discreet ongoing support during these dark days... you're a treasure. Be well - Bar
