I love the little corners of my poems,
the lines that take a prat-
fall now and then, the helter
-skelter that stops just short of a shambles
or a little way beyond.
This is not
what Robert Frost said of free verse:
that it was like playing tennis without a net.
This is like playing tennis without a net,
an adversary, a racquet
or a ball.
