They say that what goes around comes around.

The theory was something like that:

Whatever evil you do to others will come to you. (right???)

Let's say a plumber cheats on his woman customer who hired him to fix her kitchen basin pipe and after completion of work asked much amount as his wages which makes woman customer puzzled and irritated.

His woman customer told him: "What goes around comes around."

And somehow…this is supposed to make everyone feel better because the universe or higher being(s) will do the same with the plumber what he did to the woman customer.

And if we stick to the plumber for few more days and closely watched his routine maybe later on in life…the plumber wife cheats on him(I know I know I know…bit severe on plumber but as he is not our main character let it be the way I wanted it to be - hmmm).

"What goes around comes around" everyone surmises and somehow that shows how everything came full circle. But if what went around really came around…then Hitler wouldn't have gotten off so easy, innocent children wouldn't be forced into labour and murderers wouldn't be acquitted on a technicality.

Now if you ascribe to a religion or faith…then yes…

Hitler and murderers will go to Hell or the equivalent thereof in other religions.

Yet in this life…there are people who do lots of bad things and go on to live perfectly happy lives…without guilt…shame or punishment.Let's face it.

And it happens all around us. There is no rhyme or reason.

So again the camera will roll back on me – and you may find me saying…

In my life….I certainly don't think that all the people who've mistreated me will have bad things happen to them because of what they did.

And if bad things did happen to them…it wouldn't be because of their bad acts towards me.

Bad people and bad things just sometimes exist and occur.

It's a part of life.
They serve no purpose.
They just sucked.
Maybe they made me tougher, wiser, and more self-reliant.

But I don't think you can tell a woman customer who was robbed by a plumber (which she noticed after so many hours that her certain things are missing) when she thoughts that the plumber seems like a nice old man and may be needed a job….that her robbery "happened for a reason."

If we just give her choices…I think she'd rather not hire the plumber at all.

And I don't think telling her that "what goes around comes around" lessen the trauma of her robbery.

Especially when she thinks a plumber is a loyal person but he turned out thief.Perhaps I'm being too harsh.

Maybe…if we try hard enough…we can see….maybe some of you just need to believe that there is something or Someone out there who will right all the wrongs.

We all need our beliefs…don't we?

Another interesting piece - so many people believe in 'karma', that the balance of good and evil will balance out over time.

In the case of 'karma' it doesn't necessarily have to happen in this lifetime, of course. The plumber might live to a ripe old age and die in his sleep - but then he might return as a dung beetle or an tapeworm.

To the poor lady who was robbed, of course, this gives very little consolation. But believing that he WILL eventually be punished perhaps makes her loss a little more bearable.
If only we knew for sure..... :skep:

Ah but is the observer in full possession of the facts?
The strong and cruel often succeed. No doubt.
If the destruction of some of Stalin's statues is "karma" then karma ain't too impressive.
Cheats often prosper just not always. Not even sneaky, cunning and conniving cheats always prosper.
But the gentle, kind and good are often kicked in the teeth by life, fate, nasty people. Should we worry? Anyone for idealistic revolution? Sure way to kill lots of kind gentle people - for the greater, later good and the establishment of "democracy"
