The Muse in Homer's Odyssey

I am looking for interpretations on the invocation of the Muse in the exordium of the Odyssey. I have some ideas for writing, but if you have done thinking on related subjects, please share. My main question is: what does Homer do when he asks the Muse to sing to him of Odysseus?
