Hi there,
My name's John, and I live in Kilmarnock, Scotland, although I'm orginally from Glasgow.
I joined this board a while back when I was working on an Urban Fantasy novel, but on reflection it was too Simon Green and Jim Butcher, and no matter how much I tried to put my own slant on it, my main character always seemed to morph into John Taylor, Eddie Drood, or Harry Dresden, so I decided to put that particular piece of work on the proverbial backburner.
Now, I've started working on a new piece.
My Dad was an RSM in the Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police, and my new work is about an ex-SIB Staff Sergeant who is now an officer in a fictitious British Law-Enforcement and Intelligence agency.
I've spent a bucket load of time researching the British Police and Intellignce communities, and have now started putting pen to paper (or finger to keyboard as the case may be).
So far I've written up a press release describing my fictitious agency as a pre-Chapter 1 tag, and Chapter 1 itself, which attempts to be a one page shock image intro.
If anyone is interested, I'll post up the tag and the short chapter 1.
Anyway, any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
