Freedom no Longer
By: Sean Laird

Within its darkest days, hope prevails
Mouths of the demanding; beings of order and structure, evil manifests
Deathly hollows torment, but only to the brightest of souls
Anger consumes the weak, death awaits the unforgiving
Dominance forms the unspoken, purpose awaits the spoken

Eyes closed
The voices of warrant sound
Does one heed their call?

Soundless screams emanate
Fear is manifold, colourful hues are only perceived when accepted
Power is temporary, bidders outbid the bidders
To hold is to control
To gain is to command
To lose is to die

Eyes closed
Handcuffs imprison innocent hands
Decisions are rejected
Freedomless voices are blurred
The standpoint of acceptance is manifold
But clear

Ideas are to be burned
Forfeit or relinquish
Provoke the same, change will occur
Redeem the freedom that has been cast aside
Dominance will be no more

Eyes open
Thoughts are now blinded
Deny, should one be so distraught to think otherwise
Change will occur!
I walk into these prison halls
Welcome to democracy...

A very emotional and powerful piece - some weighty thoughts to get to grips with. I just felt that certain lines worked better than others, and the weaker ones (in particular parts of verse 5) could be removed without diminishing the impact.

The theme reminds me very much of the Leonard Cohen song 'Democracy (Is Coming To The USA)'.

Well done.
