I was walking down the street and when I was about to enter the shop to buy SUGAR I remembered that I had left my wallet at my mums home which was near the store, and was thus unable to get sugar.

As I was walking down the street in fine weather with fresh air cause roads were empty, it was just after the Juma prayers...I had no choice but to go back my mums house to get my purse, an elderly man of almost in his late thirty wearing what appears to be a denim shirt and a fine black trouser was walking towards me.

He stops to ask me where a certain store is.

Being the good person and responsible citizen and that I am...hmm....I point out that he is going the wrong way and that it's actually the opposite direction.

Actually it was the same store from which I failed to get SUGAR. HE asked me what makes me come out on this hollow road and on such unofficial time. I told him it is SUGAR.

Meanwhile he also told me that he just came from that direction and didn't see it. And it assured me that he didn't belong to this part of the city.

He then reverses and starts walking alongside me as I was explaining that I'm pretty sure the store is the way I was coming from but he continue to walk by my side.

hmm....Then we get to the corner where I make my right onto another street.

I tell him to just continue on the street and he should see the store.

Instead of continuing on, he stands there and starts a chat. He asks me questions about the area, if I was in school in the same area, how I went to school, what I liked to do for fun, etc.

After several minutes, it's apparent he has no intention of ending this conversation.

I smile and nod.I start to give my exit signs like, facing my body another direction, sighing that "Okay gotta go" sigh, etc.

He keeps asking me questions about life and the town and tells me about his life. Every time I'm about to turn and walk away, he asks another question and thoroughly explores each relevant history.

When I finally find a pause in the conversation, I say "Okay I gotta get going, good luck finding that store."

As I'm eagerly walking away, he said to me, "Can we exchange numbers?"

I turn back to him briefly to reply "hmm....you already had ! My beloved husband !" and walk away.

Even than he remembered that I somewhat like a wife to him he kept following me...hmmm.....

Here was me thinking the worst - that a stranger was causing you trouble and that you couldn't shake him off - and then you give us such a humorous ending that puts a smile on everyone's face.

I felt the first two paragraphs did repeat themselves - the descriptions and setting of the scene could have been tidied up and condensed into a single opening paragraph.

But, it's a good story..... and you kept us all guessing. Well done.
