I was in my teens when I first read this novel and fell in love with it almost immediately. Today, almost twenty years later, it's still my the favorite book. Love has lasted!

A Hero of Our Time is Grigoriy Aleksandrovich Pechorin (my ultimate anti-hero), a dashing young officer with profound insight into psyche of women.

The psychological profile of Pechorin is quite perplexing. From the outside, he's highly intelligent, well educated, impertinent, daring, self-confident, even ruthless character, though, from the inside, he's like an injured animal licking his wounds.

Victorianfan thank you so much for reminding me. It has been one of my favourites as well since I first started dipping further into Russian literature apart from the standard works you read at school..

I think that for a man, his perception of the feelings & sensitivity of women was remarkable.

Was this the only book he wrote, aside from his poetry?

And was he not killed in a duel?

Regards
M.
