I was just following up on something I read about D.H. Lawrence and found this website. Very happy I did because I love to learn. So, to learn and to help me teach others, I have a question, my first for this forum.
Other than Locke, who was so important and influential to the Founders, and Kant, who wrote extensively on punishment, can you think of any other philosophers who have critically discussed capital punishment? (I think I have most biblical references already so they can be ignored for the time being.) For my purposes I am focused on philosophical discussion that predates 1786.
Thanks so much for any assistance.
