Goooooddd eeeeeeeveniiiinnnggggggggg Europe!

This is Scher calling!

Anyone watching the Eurovision tonight?

Any favorites for this year? Or any unforgettables from years past?

It is not the same without Wogan, no doubt.

Yeah, it keeps getting better and better... I really wish some countries did not take it so seriously.

The UK doesn't stand a chance (yet once again).

This's gotta be the best Eurovision winner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRJVXszKu4Q

I remember Sandy Shaw winning with Puppet on a String!

Uk's has Nil Pwah written all over it.

My best song was Norway....or Denmark..or Israel
The oddest was Russia.
The funniest was Serbia.

And Yes; I am sad.

Yes Scher - without Wogan we just left it this year. Good to see you haven't lost competitive edge Mick.

I'm not one of yer closet Eurovisionists, Im outed, I love it. Its one of those shows thats so bad its good. What I really miss, are those technical hitches that used to get the hostess sweating.

As usual, Finland didn't even make it to the finals... :p Really, our country is one of the least successful Eurovision countries ever! When Lordi won we thought the world must have come to an end or something

I don't have a tv, so I've missed the Eurovision Song Contest for two years now (well, this year I was working so I wouldn't have been able to watch it anyway). Perhaps next year I'll be able to watch it for real again!

I've only ever seen clips of Eurovision, and they're never all that flattering. I'm pretty sure if it were televised here I'd watch every minute of it.

Very surprising result -- my guess was a place below 15 for the german contribution. :rolleyes5:

The perky little German girl done good!
could this be an omen for the world cup

Finland are Eurovision-legends the first country ever to get zero points. An acheivement that will live on in the memory long after the winners are forgotten.

You are obviosly a man of taste and discernment.

Yes. the perky little German surprised us all. Thats why I love the whole thing - no one can ever pick the winner.

Is this an omen for the world cup?

I like the German song sort of but not so much her voice... She sounded like she could not keep up with the notes.

What did you think of the top five?

Germany
Turkey
Romania
Denmark
Azerbaijan

Interesting mix of countries.

Well, I got to be a Eurovision freak as well trough my hubby who is one... He even spends time on forums about it  and he talks about me sitting on this forum all the time...

You're right, PaulClem, Terry Wogan was still that bit better, but maybe Graham Norton will still get there after all. Terry Wogan had a lot of experience, so I guess that mainly does it. Mind you, the commentator for the two semi-finals was good as well. His commentary of the Swiss song, that it meant 'golden shower', that was great!

Anyway, great that Germany won. At least it is quality and no Dima (sorry Russians here). This year Russia could win because that was a BEAUTIFUL song, but I guess too morbid in musical key to do well. However, it was very truly Russian. Nothing of that over-glittering over-obvious stuff with bad music, a professional violinist who does nothing and Plushenko who is an Olympic (?) champion ice skater, who also does nothing at all. But I guess people were more enamoured by the German girl now, rightly though.

Anyway, I am chuffed, because the Belgians finally did well! Although he only came sixth with his guitar, he is the highest Flemish entry ever! I think Belgium is the country that has the most losers in its entries that either came last or one before last. Only the Walloons get it right sometimes (including the win of 1986 (?), J'aime la Vie and Urban Tread in 2003 (?) which came second only because the Swedes didn't give us any points and voted Turkey, bloody hell!) and then the Flemish f*ck up.

Those web cams were great though, and the interval act! That was great, but the Norwegians apparently all love Eurovision, so they wanted to include absolutely everyone!

The presentation was great as well.

Ah, wait until next year...

[edit] The top five:

Turkey I found very good. That song had something. I don't like rock at all, and a woman who undresses hersel I find a cheap act, but that song had something.

Romania, I found boring, but I guess very nice neighbours. And the piano must have hypnotised a lot of people.

Denmark, I found nice, but nothing to shout about. It could well have been Belarus. Same kind. I guess the singers were nicer looking or something, or maybe the fact that they came last made them more remembered?

Azerbeijan, I just found a copy of Beyoncé. There is already one, make your own music without copying another. But probably the Beyoncé fans found this fantastic though.

Well, I don't like the winner song, but congratulations to our dear neighbours.;)

My favourite was the Irish song - a typical boring eurovision song, but at least she had a great voice and could sing. :cornut:

I don't have anything against her, she is very good-looking indeed, and I agree that their song was way better than the german one. I didn't mean the remark about the latex suit too seriously :)

Oh yeah, until 2006, when Lordi won, Finland was the country with the recond of the longest period with no Eurovision victory. Since then the record has been held by Portugal.

Finland has scored last place 8 times and 3 of them with zero points. Five times Finland was not allowed to attend because of doing so bad last time :D

An Eurovision country this bad will not be forgotten soon!

There used to be a joke about this before 2006...

Genie: Thanks for freeing me! I will now grant you one wish.
Man: Bring the Finnish Karelia back to Finland!
Genie: That's too big a wish, maybe a smaller one?
Man: OK, let Finland win the Eurovision Song Contest even once!
Genie: Hmm... let me see that map again...

I can honestly say I am not a fan of Eurovision but it is funny how people here in Iceland always think we will win even before the contest starts.

I thought that maybe enough people out there hated Iceland enough to give us their vote, now THAT would really get us bankrupt!

prendrelemick

The Icelandic entry was one of those who could actually sing - so no chance then.

The UK is in the prestigious position of propping up the rest this year.

I know it had to be done, but it is a shame they now have semi-finals because it weeds out all the truly bazar entries.
