I'm looking for recommendations on good Thesauruses for writers.

I don't really know much about the differences between thesauruses but I'd like one that is not only comprehensive, but bends synonyms well, in that all the synonyms don't have to be exact matches and in fact that some of them should stray, or even perhaps each word would direct you to other similar "feeling" words etc...

I don't know if that makes any sense, but what thesauruses have you used and been particularly impressed with if there is even a very large difference between them.

Without a doubt, the one I find most useful has been my copy of the 'Bloomsbury Thesaurus' - mine is a bit dated nowadays (1993!) but I find its indexed system makes it so much easier to use than many others.
I believe the newer edition is called the 'Encarta Thesaurus' - Amazon advertise it bundled with the 'Bloomsbury Dictionary' but no doubt they are also available separately.

H

PS - this does exactly what you are after - guiding you to other words that are similar/opposite/etc.
