It's always been roughly 2 to 1 women and that's it again as of right now. :wink5:

I am unequivocally male, partly because it says so on my Birth Certificate, and largely because my wife and kids have confirmed the fact. Also, I was in the RAF, not the WRAF. QED.

yeah, what about me? I'm a complete mess:
- biologically female and have no wish to change that
- married to a man and not beyond ogling other men :D
- my brain is female and regrettably unable to do spatial rotation according to a quiz BBC science
- prefer guy clothes, but lots of people still think I look cute and girly
- prefer to socialize with guys
- feel "gay" when girls talk about handbacks, boy friends etc. (as in
uncomfortably gender-confused and convinced I'm a bloke and shouldn't be
talking about this)
I wanna see you create a poll that covers all those dimensions, otherwise I'll feel discriminated against and sue LitNet ;) *joking*

I am not happy being called 'female'.
"Female" refers to a biological classification and includes a larger group than "woman", which is a social construction and does not include our younger members (pre-teens or teenagers).

In other news, it's really refreshing to see a website that has such a high percentage of women.

Male. I'm glad to see that the difference of the amount of males/females is not too big on this forum. I'm sure it's much worse on other ones!
Hmm, I am surprised, there are a lot more males than females on this forum.
I always thought that women tend to read more.

10-11-2011, 05:23 PM
This is indeed a different turn of poll as for years females outnumbered the males on this Forum.
Wonder what is behind the change...

10-11-2011, 10:17 PM
Female readers tend to have more friends who read than male readers? But then that wouldn't explain it changing. (All I know is I'm one post closer to being able to vote in the classical lit. book club section.)

In the interchange of cultural backgrounds I faced in the world, never found a clearly defined "man" or "woman". There is a predominant gender in a person but always there are some traits from the opposite side (see Schehrezade avatar). :smile5:
So, I guess it would be difficult to determine how much progesterone or testosterone has the forum.
Lets assume half and half, and celebrate!! :drool5:

This begs the question. Why so few book clubs for men? Yet, you see most literature forums half filled with men.

So, I guess it would be difficult to determine how much progesterone or testosterone has the forum.Which is why the poll does not ask whether you are a man or woman but simply your gender... Which is a biological classification.
PS: I will be going back to my "avatar" shortly. Worry not. ;)

Though I kind of believe gender is a spectrum instead of a black and white classifcation, I kind of wonder why it matters what the male to female ratio is of anything. It kind of seems like it's like looking for something to be sexist about. But I'm hypersensitive about these things so feel free to ignore me

For me, this exposed an inner sexism I had. I'd expected to be vastly outnumbered by females, and that assumption was promptly turned on its head.
