View Full Version : The Rerun
Revolte

Studded vest asleep beside
late night Daria reruns,
pieces of my past reside
entombed with the old Die-Hunns.
Punk rock poet sleeps alone
with patches of his soul,
safety pinned onto the bed
beneath a new thread roll.
Old tattoo from drunken nights
slips out beyond the sleeve,
“hello there it's your old friend,
needle pricked with boiled ink.”
Glowing grin upon the face
aged well past its prime,
reminds the heart to never lose
the songs once left behind.

Hi Revolte.
Sorry but I just don't get the first verse at all
I guess I'm culturally impoverished :D
The rest of it is a rattleing good read. H

I hardly consider myself any more in touch with contemporary American media than Hawk is, but recognise the name Daria (from a cartoon series) and punk rock ensemble the Die-Hunns.
But whether or not the references mean anything, this is another striking poem.
It reminds me a bit of the kind of stuff Henry Rollins might recite - he's not my cup of tea, but your poetry is.
ANother fine bit of writing.

It feels like the person is looking back at fundamental aspects of who they were. A juvenile room grown old.

I really enjoyed this poem. I like the sparse and not-overstated way you were able to portray this figure.
But I'm a little iffy about the end. It just seems too...euphemistic? Optimistic? I'm not sure which.

This is a nice little lyrical piece. I loved the reference to Daria which is a show I used to actually fall asleep to watching late nights on MTV! I also loved your subtle, unobtrusive and musical uses of rhyme, aliteration, and assonance.

Yes, your style is most different to others. I enjoyed this as I do all your other poems.

thank you. The last couple of days teen nick has had a bunch of Daria episodes on late at night. It's been a wonderful blast to the past.
@Walker I actually like alot of henrys work, though I've never got around to finding any of his books. People have read some parts of them to me and it interested me.

Good stuff, Revolte.
You're getting really fluent at these sort of poems, your voice flows through them very naturally; always good to read your posts.

I liked this, it created a very dark image for me.
