I am so old, so old, so old!
Watching friendships die,
constellations changing in the sky.
So old I’ve seen the stars’ last cry
as they implode and darken, marking time.

I quite like this piece but what are we supposed to make of the title which so conflicts with the first line! I checked out your blog and quite like your other poems to. You definitely have real talent I hope you'll continue to post some of your work here.

That's so sweet of you to say!
And in answer to your question: I believe that you're never too young to feel old. *sighs*

You're probably right there. I hope the reverse (never too old to feel young) proves as equally true. :)

Me too! Guess I'll have to wait to find out though.

Hi JD, if you think you feel old now, wait till you hit the big five oh!
Short sweet and to the point. Nice.

On first reading this, I thought it was something you'd just tossed off & that it wasn't to be taken all that seriously but on rereading it, I find a depth of metaphysical yearning. That "marking time" at the end is a profound expression of despair. I'm going to check out your blog.

Well I thank you for taking the time to give it a second reading! :)

I enjoyed reading this and I think what I liked most was the voice, which doesn't quite sound mortal, but implies something more eternal. I understand what PM said about the first reading seeming like
something you'd just tossed off
and I think the title contributes to that quite a bit, but it does create irony. It also makes it sound a bit melodramatic, but I guess that comes with the crisis.
nice poem, thanks

Hmm, well the voice was quite my own, but if I seem to be more than mortal...well I won't discourage that opinion.
But yes, melodrama is my favourite poetic vice.

I like the edited version of this poem (but I come late and haven't seen its original version) - and I agree, it's never early to feel old! I've just spoken with an 11 year old boy literally darkening and imploding under the burden of his life-up-to-now as one looks at him... things are so relative. Thanks for this sharing... Bar

Too true. I'm fortunate not to have been very burdened- but nonetheless I've been complaining about my age ever since I turned ten, as my parents are fond of reminding me.
