One year ago today
for all I care
you still live somewhere
In a place
where I still can't go
so how would I know
that you're really gone
if leaving this life
made no difference
to mine?

What a painful little poem. Excellent expression.

This poem has a beauty and simplicity is what glues us to it. This is what every child feels for his departed parent. The child cannot forget or believe that his dad was gone and the fact that the dad lives on and on despite the fact that he is no more here physically and does he live on and on in memories or in fantasies or in an afterlife is something unsaid. And a good poet never says lots when un-articulated and a bad one says too much but says nothing of substance. My hat is off to the poet and he said so much by saying too little.
Seems a little tongue-tied but try to peel off the layer you will arrive at something really superb and tantalizing.

I peeled off some loose words if that helps

Good revision D40. Sadly I suspect that this is a too common sentiment in the modern age, very well expressed. Maybe not the happiest of poems but a very good one, none the less. H

I'm with Hawkman and the others: a sad poem but so very well expressed. Best - Bar
