Tantamount's last stand

‘I had a relationship once with a guy.
‘Did you? I didn’t know.’
‘I’ve got the scars to prove it. I can show ‘em to you. Look, there’s one here – another there…’
‘Ok! Ok! I get it. So, what happened?’
‘My freedom became tantamount.’
‘Sounds like a great name for a horse. So,was it difficult to escape?’
‘Yes. The rush of oxygen when I did escape was wonderful. I miss him. I love him. My freedom is more important.’
‘What are you saying?’
‘When I’m vulnerable, I want him to catch me. Freedom needs bars on it sometimes.’
‘That must be difficult for you to handle. Are relationships an all or nothing affair?’
‘I believe they are. I mean, I understand that to be true from the platform from which I stand.’
‘So, what you’re saying is there’s no halfway point, no compromise, no middle ground?’
‘I believe that’s called self abuse. It isn’t in my interest to devalue myself.’
Whoa there,Tantamount! I want you to have inner peace, not subject yourself to a humiliating course of action. We have identical tops remember? What do you think you need?’
‘I told you before! I want to be caught when I fall.’
‘Sounds to me like you just want to spread the stuff in your life around.’
‘Are you saying that’s a bad thing? Couples dump their stuff on each other all the time!’
‘You’re not a couple.’
‘I know that! Didn’t I say I missed him? My paradox is exactly that – freedom with bars on it. God, you’re not very cluey!’
‘What you had in reality though was bars with freedom in it and that is very different to the romantic notion you have contrived. I appreciate everything you say. You can dump your stuff on me anytime. Perhaps it might even help you a little?’
‘Well, just a smidgen, but some things, you understand, can’t be fixed, however hard you try.’
‘Perfectly. I’ll do what I can in the meantime though.’
‘Thanks.’
‘No problem.’
