Playing with words

I was reading an article in the Bankok Post today on this subject. Apparently the Oxford English Dictionary accepts about 3,000 new words each year. Not content with that, people like to play around with already established words and give them new meanings. The Washington Post has a yearly contest in which readers are asked to supply alternate meanings for common words.

Here's a recent sample:

Coffee. (Noun) The person upon whom one coughs.

Flabbergasted (Adj) Appalled by discovering how much weight one has gained.

Willy-nilly (Adj) Impotent.

Negligent (Adj) Absentmindedly answering the door when wearing only a nightgown.

Lymph (Verb) To walk with a lisp.

Balderdash (Noun) A rapidly receding hairline.

Willy-nilly (Adj) Impotent.




*shocked* I used to like this emoticon (--> :willy_nilly:)so much. And I would use it anywhere and everywhere.
