When you are happy
my heart delights
in the jubilation of life
and I celebrate food
with you
because it makes me
feel good

When you get angry
It's like you need to chew
your way through
whatever you can't digest
bits of you bloat
like a tumour
and I can appreciate more
the badge of pain you wear

So when I expose your rage
your hurt takes the stage
You need blankets of food
to comfort you
from those who would
glance at issues
which block your emotional tract

Can you chew with you tongue in your cheek? I rather like this cornucopia of imagery, It reminds me that it's time to eat something. ;)

It's a rather dark piece on a really tough subject. Especially today where food has become a drug in and of itself. Perhaps more literally than we know given how processed it all is. But it's most definitely an emotional crutch for some people, and I can definitely sympathize; even though I'm not overweight I have been, and I understand how easy it is to use food to supply all kinds of needs from the deeply emotional ("comfort food") to simply finding something to fill one's time.
