Amazon has this textbook buy back and I just boxed up all of my old text books. I get to ship the books to them for free. They give you Amazon credit, which I would use in a NY minute! This has been so easy that I wanted to share it the word.

here's the link

Did they already tell you what your credit would be? The issue I ran into was that most of the companies would only give me maybe $5 for each book or they wouldn't give me anything, but they wouldn't send the books back either. I may look into it and send some if they'll take them.

Yes, they tell you. Some of mine were only .90 and some were 40.00. To tell the truth that's not much less than what I paid for them. I got them used off of Amazon and would get old editions when I could. I'm shipping a big box of books to them and getting 125.00 in credit if they are satisfied with the quality. They may doc me on some of them. But, I don't need then anymore and I could use the space. Even if I were to end up with half that much credit I would be getting more out of them than if I just held on to them.

Yeah I've sold some used DVDs to Amazon this way. They tell you exactly how much you will get for them. And the sweet thing is they pay for media mail shipping, so you just have to box them up and take them to the P.O.

I might try that. There's a used book store here that wouldn't accept some of my old textbooks. I wonder if Amazon is using the same thing this store uses to determine whether or not they'll take it back. You'd think they'd give you something for it. There's a free book bin in front of the store where they dump the rejected books or you can dump them there yourself. There should be a book recycling business - they pay you a dime or some amount for books that businesses won't sell used. I'd use it. Maybe. The best part of the amazon deal is the credit you get though.

i usually buy from the e-bay-like communities on amazon, so most of my textbooks are around 5-10 dollars. At that price, there is no reason to sell em' back.

That's what I do. I only paid more than 20 bucks for one book and it was less than 50. Some I got for a dollar. I've been cleaning out my office and working on my shelves this week. I didn't realize how many textbooks I had. I figure that I'll never use them again- I didn't really read most of them when I was using them. I'm kind of excited about amazon credit. If they gave me cash I would put it in my checking account and pay bills, but now I'll just HAVE to spend it at Amazon. I love getting books from Amazon!

Am I the only one that buys them new and keeps them once I'm done taking the class?

You may need them later, I've held on to some of these for years. I'm done with school and I have other more specific books to refer to. There were some semesters that it would have cost between 800 and 1000 dollars to buy them new from the college bookstore. There is no way I could afford that. And there were a lot of times I would get an old edition of a book and never even open it. Never using it would have really upset me if I had paid 300 dollars for it new!

$300 dollars for a book? What's it hand written in liquid silver ink with gold leaf pictures?

Anyway I doubt Amazon would want my 30 year old text books. :D

No. I've kept all my old text books. Actually i probably have most of the books I've ever bought in my entire life. I have a hard time parting with books.
