View Full Version : To My Mother

Revolte

(I suppose its kind of late to post this here, I already gave it to my mum, but in the spirit!...)

Only Mother's acceptance could cradle
a son's eccentricity
(Little child's obsessions with flowers
and bi-polar swing sets).
He always cried fierce notes with demand
for toys and trinkets,
and with pockets filled only with holes
Mother would buy.

A single day of each year is not all enough
to praise Mother's pride
-Each day of each year wild son tempted fate,
rebelling homework and law-
and no towering chain could do what's done
by Mothers love
(Keeping a child from beating down bullies
to overweight knees).

Wolf-like child, pack-less and free spirited,
was much for the ear;
Yet Mother's stride was prideful enough
to stand every scream.
I shutter to think what I would have become
without Mother and Trix.
A wolf-like child needed a pack, that pack,
what a hell of a pack.

Note: Trix, was our dog.

Brilliant - hope your mum appreciated the sentiment, Revolte.

I absolutely loved the phrase 'bi-polar swing sets' - every playground should have one.....

I'm sure your mother was elated to receive this.

Art-wise, I preferred your previous poem, but this one praises so well your Mom: a real rock of patience and wisdom, providing the necessary frame and ensuring that your need of freedom is also satisfied... so it's a beautiful love poem and a tribute indeed! and your Mom's probably very happy and moved...

The only remark I could have here is that since the whole poem is about and to your Mom, adding Trix in the context reads a little strange. You could devote a separate poem about Trix role in your adolescent life...

Thanks for this reading,

Best rgds to you - Bar

In general, I tend to dislike poems that celebrate things like mothers on mother's day. No matter how artfully done I guess I can't help but be reminded of all the tedious hours spent with my mom when I was young reading all the schmaltzy greeting cards that she would buy for my grandmother or others. But, I must say, I think this is quite good by the sheer fact that it didn't bring back that memory. There's more of a personal vibe to it that doesn't veer into the kind of "one size fits all" attitude of greeting cards. So nicely done.

You're biased! How horrible.

Everyone's biased on some levels about some things. To be non-biased is to not be human. Overcoming bias (shout-out to Yudkowsky!) takes a lot of effort.

As a mother, I liked this poem... You did well, mum should be pleased.
