I've read 4 of her books, and I think she has a lot of talent. Cat's Eye was good, Oryx and Crake was good, Blind Assassin was really good, although The Handmaid's Tale was terrible. I'm thinking of reading Surfacing and The Robber Bride. How do people feel about this author?

I have only read The Handmaid's Tale, of her, and I thought it brilliant! The story was framed incredibly well and the story was marvelous. I found the characters also well constructed.

May I ask what you did not fancy of the novel ?

I enjoyed this novel too. We studied it from the dystopian society perspective.

I too have recently discovered Atwood, and I have to say I absolutely love her writing and she is emerging to be one of my favorite authors. I think her books, which I have read thus far, are truly wonderful and marvelous stories.

Cat's Eye was that first thing by her I have read, and I loved The Blind Assassin, and I have to admit personally I really enjoyed The Handmaid's Tale quite a lot, though I know a lot of people do not care for that book. Perhaps it is just my love for dystopia.

I have not read Oryx Crake yet, but I am currently reading a collection of short stories by her called Bluebeard's Egg and Other Stories.

I find the stories to be quite interesting.

but the next three books I listened to on CD. I didn't like them as I did The Blind Assassin, can't even remember their titles. I am going to try The Handmaid's Tale before I give up on her.

I find her writing to be good but for some reason i don't get into her stories and characters much.

Oryx and Crake is my favorite book, ever.
I love her.
Some of her books can get repetitive, though. Bodily Harm and Cat's Eye are two of my least favorite books of hers (personal opinion).

I hugely enjoyed Lady Oracle, however. And the Handmaid's Tale. I have gotten my male friend hooked on her books, even though she is somewhat of a 'feminist' author.

I tend to really dislike the endings of her books- I like a definitive end, instead of leaving it up to my imagination. Again, personal preference.
