How's everyone doing? My name is Abdallah and i live near Toronto Canada. I've always enjoyed reading but recently i've been getting more deeper into it and getting into more classic literature so i decided this would be a good place for me to join. I just recently finished The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and i just started Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky earlier tonight. I look forward to getting into some good, stimulating discusions here. :)

Welcome!

Have you found that the classics have earned their reputation of the ones you have read? I have meant to read more myself. I'm not reading much now that I am taking my medical coding course, but sometimes I wondered why some of these books are considered classics.

I really liked some of Shakespeare's litte known works--though now I've forgotten which ones they were. I read a whole volume of all his works. The only thing I really remember was getting traumatized by Titus Andronicus. I think I like Pericles, Prince of Tyre and the plays on Henry VI.

Was The Picture of Dorian Gray good?

So far i've sound these classics to be well worth of the praise they've gotten. I'm sure eventually i'll find something that i personally tihnk is overrated, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm actually really behind in Shakespeare. I've read a few of the major plays (King Lear being my favourite so far) but i really need to start reading more of his works.

With The Picture of Dorian Gray i think the story was very simple and nothing too groundbreaking, but that may just be because the story i well known so i knew a lot of it before reading the book, however Oscar Wilde's writing makes the book worth reading. The way he wrote the book was brilliant in my opinion.
