The Island at the End of the World - Sam Taylor - has anybody else read it?

I just finished reading Sam Taylor's "The Island at the End of the World". I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed it. I thought it was long, boring, predictable, so in other words I didn't like it. Also, the end confused me so I'm wondering if anybody else read the book and can give me some insight on their interpretation of the ending. Otherwise I feel like I just wasted my time. I read a book I didn't like and then the end made no sense to me. Doesn't get much worse than that.
