Dostoyevski is my all time fav writer, ı read some of his books many times. And ı even wrote an article about Dostoyovski. Here it's..

Read the article. Thanks for sharing your views. I've read Crime and Punishment, Notes From the Underground and White Nights. I liked all of these, esp. Crime and Punishment.

I agree with you that Crime and Punishment & Notes From the Underground are great books, but the Gambler is not so special.

perhaps when you are only comparing it to other Dostoevsky books.
The Gambler is a very good book. The descriptions of playing roulette are particularly outstanding - they are taut filled with incredible accuracy
For the opening post - if you like those books - I particularly recommend his books Insulted and Humiliated, The Possessed, The Idiot, and The Eternal Husband. I liked all of those better than Crime and Punishment - although Crime and Punishment is probably equally as good
