View Full Version : What's your writing tool?

I'm just curious what tools people use in their writing method: pen, typewriter, computer? AlphaSmart, voice recording? I type at a fair speed, but I think I prefer writing on paper, even though it seems slower and can cramp your hands.

So what do you use to write?

I prefer the old tin magic of pen to paper.

And would it be narcissistic of me to say: I like the sight of my own handwriting?

Typing, I suppose. Mostly on a computer, but occasionally I do dig out the old typewriter - there's something so satisfying about writing on one of those.

Random, messy notes in pen / pencil as a rough draft, and then everything on computer, making up my mind about the story as I write.

I have a notebook in which I try to write something each day no matter how haphazard. I also use pen and paper for the first draft of everything I create but then Word takes over for all remaining drafts.
I just feel words flow more easily from pen to paper than from fingers to keyboard although my typing speed is not to be sniffed at..... (he wrote, 20 minutes after beginning this post).

I usually type all of my stories and such on the computer, and write notes on paper. I really enjoy writing on paper, but when I'm writing a story (or anything, for that matter) I am always two or three sentences ahead in my thoughts; when I am writing with a pen, it is slower than typing and I struggle to reach the point I am at in my mind. I often find myself wishing that I was typing instead of writing.

However, a finished page that was written by hand always looks much more satisfying to me than a typed page.

I used my own blood as ink and write on dried skins of animals I've sacrificed to the Muses.
