The poor, the middle, and the leisure class
our broken society,
brewed from monetary morality,
fueled by fallen ancestry,
skewed by corporate presidency,
supported by insolidarity,
leaves us without community.
Divided we stand, manufactured by
the "All Americans Created Equal" brand, on
tippy-toes and cannibal nose above the blood,
looking down upon alien savages.
I plead for one to pull me under
so I can drown.

I like this very much - sounds just like the kind of vituperative bile transformed into art that Dylan was master of during the late 60's. I can almost hear him singing these words now.....
How come there are no protest singers any more? .....or am I now out of touch?

here in Phoenix Arizona there is a very large anarchist punk movement. i know of at least 20+ local bands (phoenix + flagstaff), who are mostly political.

Sadly not as representative of world-wide 'youth' as the likes of Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Donovan etc. were in the 60's when they had the Viet-Nam war, racial segregation and other more widely publicised injustices to rant against.
Thanks for your info tho'.....

This is breathtakingly good! There's a marvelous collegiality between the poetic skill and the (nearly) unbridled rage.

I echo prince and hill's comments. I wouldn't confine my rage though:
"Divided we stand, manufactured by
the "All Americans Created Equal" brand..."
It doesn't just apply to American brands. Whatever the nation the lie is the same...
Good poem. H

yeah, i totally agree. when i wrote that, though, i was playing at the fact that we deport illegal immigrants because they're not american, but our constitution says "all [people] are created equal" (i substituted 'people' for 'men' cuz thats more representative of what the phrase means)
its all about what works best for the economy, though.
down with capitalism, or down with humanity!
a choice we all must make.
